Clean House

As if there weren't enough dishes to wash, shelves to to dust, reports to generate, audits to administer, projects to manage, and invoices to calculate I've decided to go ahead and create this blog. Another distraction from daily activities and chores ... when will I ever truly get my house cleaned?!

Some things you should probably know about our house in order to better imagine the spatial layout of our future adventures at home. We purchased the house almost 5 years ago while I was working as a Financial Advisor Candidate at Wells Fargo Investments. It was at the beginning of the dip in the stock market so we purchased the house at a fairly decent price (it could've been better) but honestly for us, it couldn't have been a better time. We underwent attorney review and escrow in late December of 2009 and approximately 3 months afterwards I was canned. The easy thing about obtaining a mortgage back then was the fact that I worked for a major and global financial institution that processed mortgages every day. I don't think a typical 23-year-old with 1 year's worth of solid full-time employment history would've quickly received an bank approval letter for a mortgage. Anyhow it is a quaint and charming home with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. Only problem is that it's outdated and we are a very inexperienced and not-so-handy pair of individuals. Alas, some long hours at the office and thrifty money-management from my husband, we were able to put away a lot and finally started hiring professionals to slowly upgrade our house. About 2 years ago we had a small french drain implemented around the back door of our house. To prevent major flooding in the basement. Last year, to my delight, we were able to afford a complete and total bathroom renovation.
Before picture:
Well not quite the full "before" bathroom picture but rest-assured it was quite bad. We couldn't use the toilet for a while and the wallpaper was peeling everywhere. Plus the tub had just gotten stained too much from previous use (the house was build in 1950 and had not been upgraded since then!).

Here are some updated photographs of our new bathroom:

Added a curved shower curtain rod:

We decided to do floor-to-floor tile:

While the bathroom is new and updated we still have the rest of the 1,000 square feet to fix up. I'd like to think we will be able to do it ourselves but having professionals come in to take care of everything (although we did do a lot of prep work including budgeting, researching parts and labor, and drafting up an architectural sketch of the space) simply spoiled us. At the very least however, I should be able to get my house in order on a regular basis. And that's what I'll do today....

CLEAN! :)
